Genre: organic free-flowing instrumental hip hop, downtempo "This is that new shit and it don't feel the same." This song is an addiction and it's calling your name. It pulses and moves like none other, buzzing almost sinisterly, on the rhythms of a quickly snapping drum and the robotic fever of those chromatic scales. It's really, really hard not to be sucked into UMC's ridiculously sweet electro beat. And you know, for this song at least-it works. He is here to have fun, to rap about how the girls dig him, and to show off his swag. Gone is the soberness of 2007's Finding Forever, and this is far from 2005's magnificent "Be". The album, which features production by The Neptunes and samples from electrofunk legend Afrika Bambaataa, is a sharp turn away from the sound of Common's previous works. "Universal Mind Control," however, is another beast entirely. It was instant love and answered all my needs for free, liquid ghetto soul. I loved his straightforward rhymes paired alongside the beautiful, earthy production of "Go!". Ever since I first laid ears on the wonderful 2005 album, Be, Common has been one of my favorite rappers. I'm a little soft around the edges haha.īut rather than dwell on my own unhealthy state, I am going to end my day with a round of great music, which hopefully you will enjoy as well :) Douzo! Can you believe I used to run at least eight miles everyday? Yeah. The sky was blue as blue can be, a sweet miracle in the rainland of Seattle, and I got in a fine workout with my friend-we ran a mile and did some weights.
